We don't want you to think that we're never sorry, but what we are trying to say is that there are plenty of situations that a nurse shouldn't have to apologize for. Some of these examples may even be weighing you down personally, but they don't have to.

On today's show we share some tips on how to find that "balance" of when and when not to be sorry.

This is definitely a question we get asked, and the subject of many conversations around here at #RNFMRADIO. So you're a new nurse, but you're looking for a job and no one is willing to hire you without med/surg experience. How do you get that experience if you can't get hired? Is med/surg the only path to pursue right out of nursing school? Are there other opportunities where you could get hired without this experience?

All these questions, and more will get answered on today's episode.

We take another spin around the #NursesUnite campaign and talk about how we can (and should) be using this influence for something amazing...Like educating the media, the public, and other healthcare providers about our role as nurses. There's no need to tear anyone down. Let's lift each other up on this one.

And, we of course need to mention the #NurseSearch quest by Dr. Oz to feature a nurse on the show to provide not only some of our expertise, but obviously the nurse's point of view on health and wellness, so stay tuned!

Here at RNFMRadio we've agreed that we can't recall a time when a story about nursing has gone this viral. #NursesUnite as a movement has definitely gotten the attention of just about every nurse and non-nurse, and it looks like this isn't going away anytime soon. We wanted to take this opportunity to discuss this momentum and how we can use this for the good of the nursing profession.

We've been saying it for awhile, but we obviously want to thank Kelley Johnson, Registered Nurse and Miss Colorado for amplifying the importance of our profession on national television.

We're sure that we all wish we new a few more things about becoming a nurse before we embarked on this path. However, for most of us (we feel) that this career choice can be one of the most rewarding. An article on Cosmopolitan: "14 Things I Wish I Knew Before I Became a Nurse"  may or may not diswade you from pursuing your dream, but we'd also like to credit Dianne Foster's rebuttal and eye opening spin on how nursing can be extremely rewarding. We compare these two articles and share our thoughts on what it means to be a nurse, so stay tuned!

Episode 110: The American Nurse Project

The American Nurse Project is a heart-warming film that explores some of the biggest issues facing America - aging, war, poverty, prisons - through the work and lives of nurses. It is an examination of real people that will change how we think about nurses and how we wrestle with the challenges of healing America. THE AMERICAN NURSE is an important contribution to America's ongoing conversation about what it means to care.

The film follows the paths of five nurses in various practice specialties including Jason Short as he drives up a rugged creek to reach a home-bound cancer patient in Appalachia. Tonia Faust, who runs a prison hospice program where inmates serving life sentences care for their fellow inmates as they're dying. Naomi Cross, as she coaches an ovarian cancer survivor through the Caesarean delivery of her son. Sister Stephen, a nun who runs a nursing home filled with goats, sheep, llamas and chickens, where the entire nursing staff comes together to sing for a dying resident. And Brian McMillion, an Army veteran and former medic, rehabilitating wounded soldiers returning from war.
